What Led India Into Crisis? : Insight of COVID 2nd Wave
Primarily and Superficially, the leader Narendra Modi led it wrong by organising the massive political rallies, violating all norms of social distancing and face cover, making a mockery of the experts warnings about COVID 2nd wave. He could have had an escape route if his rallies were as per COVID protocol, masks were not in fashion even for Modi in his rallies. It is for leader to lead from the front and this is where he lead it miserably wrong.
Massive religious gathering like Kumbh during this pandemic time has also faced worldwide criticism which was organised at the will of Government, Prime Minister again being responsible for playing with the lives of millions.
Medical system of the country crashed suddenly with the second wave of COVID 19 with people screaming and running in search of hospital beds and oxygen cylinders. Irony being that elections still continued for representatives at state and even at Panchayat levels. Insensitivity, led by the long bearded BJP showman.
Going deeper into the issue presents a totally different picture. With country mourning the unprecedented deaths, it is the same country where still millions could be seen without masks, crowding one over the other. Scarcity of hospital beds, oxygen shortage is one thing but on the other side of coin, people storing and selling oxygen cylinders at extraordinarily high prices just to take benefit out of Crisis made it further a disheartening scene.
Officials at various positions all around the country presented a very cheesy picture of the society, boasting that everything is under control. Crematoriums, Graveyards, Dead Bodies in Rivers, People shouting and screaming for oxygen and medicines though makes a blot on this beautiful picture.
Data about tests being conducted and their results are still a matter of discussion. Tracking and testing contacts of COVID patients have been good on paper but a mere fancy story in reality. Be it most organised city like Chandigarh or Capital Delhi; Deaths, Mourning, Manipulations, Ir-responsibilities, Black Marketing etc have been a reality.
Fake medicines made problem worse for the people already battling the deadly disease, while medical bills took the crisis to a different level with middle class Indians losing all their life savings apart from losing lives of their family members. These facilities are much like fictional Aladdin's Lamp for poor people but the Jinn is missing who could save them.
The question arise, Is this intentional? Is Modi responsible for this Crisis? Did Social Evils made this Crisis worse?
HABITS & MANIPULATIONS. These words better fit for the Crisis. Whether we talk about beautiful picture portrayed by Prime Minister or test data provided by people involved in Covid labs, lack of tracking and testing of contacts, these are simple manipulations which we Indians have always done in our life assuming it to be perfectly fine. My city should come first in Swachchta Survey whether garbage is lying just next my door. There is always stress on decorated data, whether it is far away from reality.
The ease of doing business mean an industry is free to produce whatever quality or garbage they want to dump into society. Whether it's drug, textile or food industry everywhere there is manipulation. The chances are high that you don't get what is promised.
Habits can't be shaped in a day. We have never felt like following the queues, following rules. If the traffic police is not there why should I wear seat belt or Helmet? Same has been the case in this Covid Crisis where people wear mask just to save Challans (Penalty) rather than wearing it for safety. Sensibly standing in Queue instead of Climbing upon one another is something we are not used to. If I don't mind adulterating milk, I also don't mind when I adulterate drugs. When an auto (tuktuk) driver take advantage of your situation demanding manifold times the actual charge, Why should I blame people doing same for oxygen cylinders for earning heavy profits? Medicines have huge profit margin but how many Doctors let off their cut money facilitating low cost medicine to patients? Everybody is interested in their Business whether you talk of Government or Countrymen, with certain good exceptions.
Modi is no doubt responsible for leading it wrong but he's too small a factor who could have made the Crisis this big. Majority countrymen who enjoyed Manipulations and Morally incorrect Habits for decades for their own vested interests are just tasting the outcome of their own Habits & Manipulations.
